A Brief Introduction To Li Shi Zhen Tumor Research Institute

     Why are there so many people exposed to this fatal disease?  In human body exists an extremely important substance called GENE (DNA).  It controls the whole process of growing, metabolizing and division of the cells.  In certain people’s cells lies a kind of gene named “oncogene”.  In normal cases, it comes in a dormant state.  Nevertheless, once it has been influenced by outside elements like hormone, metabolism or mental disorder, oncogene is likely to be activated and lead to the abnormal change of the normal cells into cancer cells.  Unlike the normal cells, the latter proliferated without limits and ultimately form tumor.  Therefore, the best way to cure cancer is to start with gene.  Reverse the activated oncogene to its original dormant state, or bring it under control so that the cancer cells can no longer propagate.  Foreign medical experts have been engaging in the former field but make no progress, whereas in China research into the latter one by means of Traditional Chinese Medicine has otherwise made significant breakthrough.  For this reason, SHAN QIONG, the antitumor Chinese herbal medicine growing unknown in the remote mountains made its debut in the global medical arena.

     The recordation of SHAN QIONG first appeared in《Ben Cao Gang Mu》, a famous medical book written in Ming Dynasty.  As it was described as a deadly toxicant, SHAN QIONG has never been used in ordinary prescriptions. He also pointed out that taking some liquor mixed the ash of a joint of SHANG QIONG can treat liquor-addiction, but you would die if you take SHANG QIONG more than one joint. In this book, Li Shizhen exaggerated the toxicity of SHANG QIONG, for this result, later generations took it for deadly poison. Therefore, we cannot find SHANGQIONG in ordinary prescriptions. What a pity that such a great anti-cancer medicine had been ignored more than 400 years. Actually, SHANG QIONG has low toxicity. Mr. Chen Mojin, the head of our institute took 3.5g powder of dried SHANG QIONG in capsules once but without any adverse reactions. According to the toxicologic experiments: take 20 Kunming Type mice with the weight of 23-24g. Then we divide them into two groups, male and female is half and half. Everyday, they were taken subcutaneous injection of alcohol, ether extract 0.4, 0.2, and 0.1g/kg, and continue for 26 days ( the control group were taken the same quantity of solvent). According to the observation of the weight increase of the mice (before the medicine-taken, during the medicine-taken and the end of the experiment), and the change of peripheral hemogram, etc, no matter large dose, middle dose and small dose, there are no obvious differences from the control group in increase of weight. The transformation of the peripheral leukocyte and hematochrome is the same as the control group on the whole. According to the pathological examination, there are no pathological transformations caused by medicine on the heart, liver, lung, kidney, stomach, and lymphatic system of each group after dissection and basically, they are the same as the control group. According to the acute toxicity test relying on the alcohol and ether extract, the half lethal dose of the mice is 2.773g/kg, LD5 is 2.01g/kg, and the antineoplastic experimental safe scope is above 10.

     Li Shizhen had already known that SHAN QIONG could treat cancer. In his <<Ben Cao Gang Mu>>, he pointed out that people can scorch the SHANG QIONG and then apply it on the malignant ulcer. The malignant ulcer called by forefathers is the malignant tumor nowadays. After using histology and the scanning electron microscopy, we observed the action of extract of SHANG QIONG against cancer cell. According to the result of the experiment, the alcohol and ether extract of SHANG QIONG can bring about the transformation of cancer cell membrance, meanwhile, the red staining rate increases, mitochysis is restrained and the nucleus cleavage, and then the cell destroyed and dissolved. It can directly damage and destroy the cancer cells. Such kind of reaction will go into effect in one hour and reach the climax in two hours, and it can continues for six hours. The red staining rate of the cancer cell is the staining situation of cancer cell observed by using vital dye called eosin stain. When the vivo cancer cell membrance is completely functioned, it can exclude the stain from entering the cell. But when the vivo cancer cell membrance had been destroyed or died, eosin stain will enter the cell and combine with cell, and dyed it red. From the red staining rate we can know the number of the cancer cells. Malignant tumor is mainly activated by some bad elements through the primary cancer gene in DNA, and  forms some irregular cell mitochysis , then propagate. To some extent, the rate of the cancer cell mitochysis reflects the situation of the tumor reproduction. After using the extract of SHANG QIONG, we never saw any division-stage-cell gathering phenomenon when it reduced mitochysis. Therefore, its function is different from vinblastine. For this reason, we can easy to find that the  activated primary cancer gene in DNA fission into cancer cells, which like saccharomycete, make the cancer cell fission and propagate unceasingly, however, SHANG QIONG can kill the cancer cells which just like saccharomycete and make them no longer reproduct.

     In the recent ten years, Li Shizhen Tumor Research Institute, supported by Professor Lu Zhizheng and Research member Wu Zhikui of institute of traditional Chinese medicine of China Guang`an Gate Hospital has develop a broad-spectrum anti-cancer medicine called YanShou HuaLiu Pill (which means prolong life and removing tumor).
